Tofu Tempe Manis

Traditional indonesian sweet dish made of tofu and tempe. Manis means sweet in Indonesian.

Ingredients

This Recipe Serves 2

5 pcs Tofu - cut julliene

1 piece Tempe - cut julliene

5 pcs Garlic

10 pcs Shallot

5 pcs Red chili

1 pcs Tomato

3 pcs Hot chili

2 pcs Kafir lime leaves

3 slices Galangal (if not available, just without)

150 ml Oil

2 tbs Sugar or sweet soya

Direction

  • Cut all ingredients and roast them on a pan with oil.
  • Blend the soft ingredients (garlic, shallot, red chilli, tomato, hot chilli, galangal) with 100 ml of water.
  • Put into a pot with oil and stir for 10 minutes.
  • In another frying pan, deep fry the tofu and tempe until it is crispy.
  • Add 2 spoons of sugar or sweet soya to make the sauce more caramelised.
  • Add the fried tofu and tempe to the pot with the sauce and mix it together.
  • Serves

    After cooking, put the dish on the plate and add any kind of garnish.

    Chef's Tip

    After adding the sugar or sweet soya to the sauce and after the fried tofu and tempe, do not cook it for too long, otherwise the sauce will get bitter. It is enough if you just quickly mix it together. The tahu tempe you can be kept in a room temperature in a closed container.
